Dear Parent/Carer

You will be aware of the decision made by many Trade Unions (teaching and non-teaching) to take industrial action on 30 November 2011, in relation to disputes over the proposed Government changes to the public sector pension schemes.

We now have the outcomes of the ballots for these unions.  As a school, we have a mixture of staff who belong to different unions, including a small cohort of staff who belong to a union which has not yet balloted for strike action.  It is because of this that we are able to offer educational provision for Year 11 students only on 30 November.  The school will be closed to all other students and Year 11 students will be given a focused day to prepare for their forthcoming trial examinations, which start in January.  The school will be open from 8.40 am to 2.35 pm with buses running to transport students to and from school.  However, please note that there will be no ILT on that day and all Year 11 students will leave school at 2.35 pm.  There will be lunch provision on the day as normal.

Hartpury College will be open for Year 11 students and buses will run as normal.

The health and safety of the students is paramount in any decision to keep the school open and this is the reason why we have decided to only have Year 11 students in school on that day.

All of the staff at Dene Magna support their colleagues in their choices to take industrial action in the form of a strike day on 30 November.  As a parent myself, I understand the disruption that this may cause, but as a Headteacher who will one day be affected by these decisions, I also support my colleagues in their choices.

Thank you for your understanding in this and we all hope that the issues over which the industrial action has arisen are resolved as soon as possible.

We will be open again to all students on Thursday 1 December 2011.  The Year 7 interim reports scheduled to be sent home to parents/carers on 30 November, will now be sent on 1 December.

Yours sincerely

Stephen Brady
