GCSE Geography Trip

The GCSE Geography trip to Weymouth (October 2014)  is now being opened up to current Yr10 students who are thinking of continuing their educational career in Geography. This is an excellent opportunity for fieldwork experience. Please ensure the £40 deposit is handed in by Wednesday 2 April. For your convenience, another copy of the letter is below...

Dear Parent/Carer

As part of the GCSE Geography course, I have provisionally arranged a three day residential field studies visit to a PGL Centre, Osmington Bay in Weymouth from Friday 24 October to Sunday 26 October 2014.  This programme will focus on the field studies skills required for the Controlled Assessment tasks as part of your child’s GCSE qualification.  This is a premier opportunity for Year 10 students to gain hands-on experience of geographical fieldwork skills in order to prepare them for their assessments which make up 25% of their final grade.

All visits are insured through the school Insurance Policy and a copy is held on the school site.

Provisional details of the weekend are as follows; we will depart from Dene Magna school on Friday morning at 9.30am and return Sunday evening at approximately 6pm. The morning and afternoon sessions at the centre will be spent learning and applying the skills required such as beach studies, geology and a focus on tourism led by the qualified Field Studies tutors at PGL Osmington Bay. We will also have an opportunity to take part in team building exercises during our stay (more details to follow). Your child will need to arrange transport from school to get home on the Sunday evening.

The cost of the visit will be £125.00 (non-refundable) to cover transport, full board accommodation for two nights, all field studies equipment and tuition. This will be broken down into three payments (if required) of: £40 deposit by 24 March, £40 by 19 May and the final balance of £45 by 8 September.

Payment can be made by cheque made payable to Dene Magna School or via the online payment system until all places have been taken.

If your child is interested in attending the field studies residential, please return the attached reply slip to Miss Dashfield along with your deposit payment by Monday 24 March.  If you require any additional information, please contact the school.

Yours sincerely

R Dashfield (Miss)
