Cardiac Screening

Please support the Fun Day on Saturday 21 February.

From ping pong to face painting a Family Fun Day at the University of Gloucestershire will be helping young people around the county receive potentially life-saving screening in Gloucester and the Forest of Dean.

Held on Saturday February 21 the free event at Oxstalls Campus in Longlevens, Gloucester, offers a huge range of activities and taster sessions for all ages to get involved in and have fun, including rugby, tennis, golf, Zumba, Street Dance, sumo suits, ping pong and beat the goalie competitions. Gloucester Bike Project will also be there offering free safety checks. In addition there will be pocket money toys and gifts that you can buy and the refectory will be open selling food and Starbucks coffee. There will also be a grand prize draw with lots of great prizes so please come along and support this worthwhile cause.

Funds raised will provide cardiac screening for 300 young people aged between 14 and 35 facilitated by the CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) charity in Gloucester, on March 31 and April 1, and the Forest of Dean on October 27.

The event is being organised by university staff and Events Management students. Professor Diane Crone leading the campaign in partnership with The Citizen newspaper said:

“Many young people have undiagnosed cardiac abnormalities which, undetected, can lead to fatal consequences. Cardiac conditions in the young can be devastating for those who experience them and these screening events can help identify young people in the county who have these problems and then have support to manage them in the future.

“The family fun day is a chance for people to do all sorts of sport and physical activity for fun, and to put smiles on people’s faces! We also hope it raises the profile of the importance of cardiac screening and heart health in the county.”

Further cardiac screening events have been organised and will be run by Cardiac Risk in the Young at the University of Gloucestershire, Oxstalls Campus, Longlevens, Gloucester on Tuesday 31 March and Wednesday 1st April. You will be able to book onto these sessions from Tuesday 10 February through this link<> or go to
