World Book Day

World Book Day takes place on Thursday 5 March, celebrating books and reading! Students can join in the fun in a number of ways:

they can take a Shelfie, a photo of themselves with their bookshelf and send to Mrs Meek for a Shelfie Display;
enter a Twitter competition (or alternatively send an email or write the tweet on paper) giving their favourite book, and why, in a maximum of 140 characters;
teachers will be talking to classes about what they like reading;
the LRC will be running a series of videos starring this year's World Book Day authors;  and
all students will receive a £1 World Book Day token - this can be used in most bookshops and also towards any purchase from the current Scholastic Teen Book Club leaflet.

We are also encouraging students to join WBD Teen Fest, the biggest online Books Party for teen fiction, on 4 & 5 March, 6 - 8pm.  This includes the brilliant authors  Holly Smale, Marcus Sedgwick, Derek Landy, Cassandra Clare, Holly Black, Darren Shan, Malorie Blackman and Sally Green. With a heady mix of live activity on Facebook, Twitter and Google Hangouts, along with author blogposts, playlists, video-based DIYs and publishing careers advice, WBD TeenFest will deliver a whole host of brilliant book-based content straight to screen. Young people will be able to interact with their favourite authors via the TeenFest social media channels or simply follow all the action from www.wbdteenfest.com
