GCSE Geography Course

Dear Parent/Carer

As part of the GCSE Geography course, I have provisionally arranged a three day residential field studies visit to a PGL centre in Weymouth from Friday 23 October to Sunday 25 October 2015.  This programme will focus on the field studies skills required for the Controlled Assessment tasks as part of your child’s GCSE qualification.  This is a fantastic opportunity for Year 10 students to gain hands-on experience of geographical fieldwork skills in order to prepare them for their assessments which make up 25% of their final grade.

All visits are insured through the school Insurance Policy and a copy is held on school site.

Provisional details of the weekend are as follows; we will depart Dene Magna School on Friday morning at 9am and return Sunday evening at approximately 9pm. The morning and afternoons at the centre will be spent learning and applying the skills required such as beach studies, geology and a focus on tourism led by the qualified Field Studies tutors at PGL Osmington Bay. We will also have an opportunity to take part in team building exercises during our stay (more details to follow). Your child will need to arrange transport from school to get home.

The cost of the visit will be £140.00 (non-refundable) to cover transport, full board accommodation for two nights, all field studies equipment and tuition. This will be broken down into three payments (if required) of: £55 by Friday 1 May, £55 by Wednesday 1 July and the final balance of £30 by Thursday 4 September.

Payment can be made via the online payment system or by cheque/cash sent to the Finance Office.

If you child is interested in attending the field studies residential, please return the attached Student Record Details and consent form to Miss Dashfield along with your deposit payment by Friday 1 May.  If you require any additional information, please contact the school.

Yours sincerely

R Dashfield (Miss)
