Wilderness Open Day Saturday 19 September

We are based at the newly re-opened Wilderness Outdoor Education Centre on Plump Hill, Mitcheldean.

By way of summary, the Wilderness Centre is set in 30 acres of beautiful woodland, meadow and pasture land.  We provide a range of activities from bushcraft, orienteering, climbing and field archery through to camping, tunnelling, night walks, foraging and outdoor cookery onsite, while activities such as kayaking, canoeing, mountain biking and caving take place offsite.  This list is by no means exhaustive.

The Centre was run by Gloucestershire County Council for many years and was purchased by the current owners, Daniel and Sophie Sturdy, last year. It has undergone major refurbishment and we are now looking forward to sharing it with the community once again.  We offer both day and residential facilities.

While we are primarily an outdoor education centre, the Centre is also very much about local produce, local suppliers and preserving as much of the “locality” as possible. The Centre allows visitors to experience traditional skills and nature, free from the constraints of modern day life.  As part of our plans we are intent of planting a traditional orchard and also wish to keep farm animals, some of whom are already on site!  We also have other plans which include charitable works.  As such, I think that this course will be most interesting and appropriate.

As an aside, we are having an Open Day this Saturday (19th September) which will run from 11 am to 3 pm and is taking the form of a family fun day and barbeque.  You are welcome to attend with family, colleagues and/or friends.  All are welcome.  The more the merrier!
