Free Cardiac Screening

Heart Screening

If you are between, or know someone between, the ages of 14 to 35 please note that there will be a FREE ECG screening (organised and funded by the family of Dr Jenny Bucknell and CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) at “The Grange School”, Monmouth on 28 and 29 October 2015.

It’s important for "sporty" students to get tested, rugby/ football/ netball team members etc, as sadly 80% of those affected have no symptoms, the first anyone knows is when they die (sudden adult death syndrome SADS) and every week in the UK another 12 families lose someone.

Just go to and click on “Book Appointment”. Then scroll down to “The Grange School” and pick the 28 or 29 October 2015 . Click on this and you will be taken to the booking page. Choose a time and fill in your details.

Dr Jenny Bucknell (a former student at Dene Magna) swam with the Monnow club for over 11 years and  she was also a swimming teacher and life guard at the Monmouth complex. She rowed at Ross, Llandaff and Cardiff University. Jenny was apparently fit and healthy, very sporty (swimming and rowing at University) and was just about to graduate as a Doctor from Cardiff University, when at just 23 she literally dropped dead from an undiagnosed heart condition.  Since then Dr Bucknell’s family have been raising money for CRY, in Jenny’s memory, to help prevent other families being devastated as they were. If abnormalities are picked up they can be treated.

Dene Magna, after hearing this sad news some years ago, named the MFL Award in Jenny's honour. This is presented every year during our Achievement Evening.

The family have raised money to pay for this screening of 14-35 year olds, as well as two ECG machines and would like to encourage everyone between 14-35 to utilise this free testing, all you have to do is book an appointment online and attend.
